This is a bit of a special update as it’s officially our one year anniversary!
It’s been one hell of a year!
Thank you to everyone in this amazing community (whether you’ve been here since mint or if you’re new), for making this one hell of a year. We are so proud of this project and can’t wait to continue the journey with you all.
Here’s a look back at some of the highlights from the past year…
Things started with a bang, selling out in just 5 hours. We knew we had something special, but we could never have expected this to blow up the way it did.
Little did we realize that we’d built the loudest and most welcoming community the space had seen. Our Kings and Queens make our project what it is 👑 What started as a fun Discord environment grew to a community of 142k Discord members and over 5000 unique holders.

VRChat Event
This Friday 12 August, we will be holding our first ever event in VRChat.
This is a community-hosted event in the Lazy Lions Private Island world which was built by Arashi and Badlands via the community grant program.
The event starts at 6pm PT and will be the first time the community gets to meet at a virtual event. There will be DJs playing live music as well, so get ready for a great night.

To celebrate our one year anniversary, Ash and Nine held a Twitter Space and took us through some of the key highlights from the past year.
Born Free Update
As you may know, the Lazy Lions team made a personal donation to the Born Free Foundation to sponsor the rehabilitation of two lions (Angela and Louga) from a cruel and inhumane circus environment.
It’s been great to hear that Angela and Louga are settling in well and are finally getting to enjoy themselves and just get to be Lazy Lions.
Update from Shamwari:
Our cats are doing very well and have settled in well. Seeing them now behave in ways that they never had the opportunity to when they were kept at a circus for years is just amazing. We see them patrolling their area — some of the trees have been clawed and enjoyed so much by our dear Angela and Louga that their claw marks are visible on them, as they make sure they leave a mark for the next cat passing by! They do this to show that this spot has been claimed already. It is amazing to see them displaying this behaviour which they would do in the wild.
Male lion Louga is always with the girls, but he never initiates play or wrestling matches because the girls would gang up on him. He figured this out a while ago — clever boy!
They all have a very healthy appetite and love their African buffet.
During tours we tell guests these lions’ story and let them know that they arrived here earlier this year. Visitors sometimes tell us that they have been following their story on social media and TV. For some guests it is hard to believe that they joined us so recently. They say that the lions look so relaxed and at home, as if they have been here for much longer. Well, it is always amazing to see animals transform here at Shamwari. Every day is different and hearing the Lions of Lockdown roar in response to the sound of wild lions which sometimes pass by the centre is a great sight to see.
For myself and my small team this job of caring for the lions here has become a passion and is a privilege. We are all proud to be making a difference to these lions’ lives.
We also thank everyone who is assisting Born Free with the lifetime care of our cats here. Without your support we would not be able to do what we do. Thank you.

Welcome back Kings and Queens and a big ROARing welcome to all the new members joining The Pride!
It’s been a very fun last few weeks inside the Lazy Lions community and we’ve recently seen many spectacular things. Some of which include: the emergence of new trait groups, more personal IP usage, and of course the Lazy Lions 1 year celebration. In fact, with the help of fellow King, @jeffRainey’s, birthday cake images, the Lazy Lions community surpassed 3.7 million social engagements in one hour! Our highest mark in three months! Amazing job everyone and thanks again Jeff.
It surely has been a whirlwind of a year and I’m very proud to see how far this community has come. What started as simply commenting on Tweets, our ROAR has evolved into hosting daily spaces, creating animations, playing games, doing giveaways, holding interviews, organizing meetups, making NFT security threads, digital content creation and the list goes on and on. The strength and the evolution in only a year’s time proves the Lazy Lions community is here to stay. And I am personally excited to see how the ROAR continues to grow in the coming years.
